Vision

The German School Kuala Lumpur offers the best international education; an education concept from Kindergarten to the German International Baccalaureate (internationally accepted University Entrance Exam).

Goals

  • Our target is to have all German speaking students in Malaysia in our school. 
  • Our future target is to teach non-German speaking children in a ratio of 30:70%

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE GERMAN SCHOOL KUALA LUMPUR

We strengthen the development of our students´personality

Education is for us the key to individual chances in life, social integration and the instrument for the development within society. Henceforth DSKL has a special responsibility to support the development of each student individually to cope with the future.

We pursue our equally important goals of gaining knowledge, development in skills (methods proficiency, learning capabilities and social know-how) and awareness of the system of values.

We connect skills in self initiative, team-work and problem solving with the capability of being self-governing and to act autonomously. This, we believe, is not negotiable for a successful future.

We attach importance to comprehensive learning

Our students are actively involved within the learning process. They are drawn into the planning and the execution of the curriculum with methods such as “learning by teaching” and projects (“learning by doing”). They are partly responsible for the growth of their knowledge. Open forms of teaching support the development of the character and the students learn to work independently and maturely.

Simultaneously to acquiring skills in methods we support and challenge our students according to their needs and potentials and as a result they will have the desire for achievement and the stamina to be doing well in unbroken learning.

Comprehensive learning emphasizes not only on cognitive and intellectual aspects but it includes physical and emotional strength and is reflected in the daily teaching. Practise and projects facilitate in special ways the learning of social skills; the experiences strengthen the individual personality.

We prepare our children for future employment and life as such

We combine our school curriculum with extracurricular offers of additional learning. We open our school to apply and complete theoretical knowledge with exercises such as excursions and internships. Therefore we are able to assist in personal authentic experiences within the workforce and life as such. We stress on good relationships with companies and institutions to secure the value of the internships.

The participation of the students is an essential part of the comprehension and conduct in democratic procedures.

We work as a team

A not negotiable prerequisite is the co-operation of all teachers to enable joint preparations for the lessons, carrying it out and the evaluation thereafter. With this we do justice to our claim of entirety by providing an education overlapping in different age groups and different subjects.

Team teaching and friendly visits in lessons of other colleagues maintain our goal of the best teaching qualities.

Smaller work groups assist in preserving the responsibility of the whole school development sustained by all our colleagues.

We work looking forward

Globalisation influences the life of our students and their families in a special way thus leading to new situations of competition. At the same time it presents chances and challenges our students will have to face.

With our excellent media equipment and very skilled teachers DSKL offers an area in new technology and teaches the students to use the technology responsibly and efficiently to fulfil their objectives

We bestow the students with awareness of ecological - and health issues in class projects.

We work bilingually and globally

We offer various courses bilingual or even in English only. The students obtain a language competence which permits them to study either in Germany or anywhere else in the world or start employment.

Our international team qualifies and prepares the students to be flexible and thriving within the modern society.

We encourange cultural exchange

Our students have the opportunity to experience German culture and history as well as Malaysian culture. We promote the encounter and exchange with local and other international institutions in our host country.

Through exchange programs with other schools, multi cultural concerts, national and international sport meets in South East Asia we promote cultural consciousness and develop tolerance.

With our social service program we provide continuous exchanges with deprived people and the implementation of communal actions. At the same time we endorse the sensitization towards social problems and the willingness to accept responsibility.

We hold quality in high regard

To secure and extend quality the students are the centre of our work. We analyse the progress of each student individually and prepare plans for individual support according to our special conception which provides guidance to foster for poorer or higher performance in our students. We promote the German language in particular. Performance reports and parents-teacher discussions secure the communication between parents and teachers; student feed back about the lessons, reciprocal visits in other colleagues’ lessons as well as further training of our teachers are the tools for permanent growth in our ways of teaching.

Through comparative exams and worldwide competitions our students are assessed in Germany and around the world.

The integration of the DSKL into the system of the evaluation of pedagogic quality management secures the transparency and the systemic continuous development of DSKL in connection with the German Schools abroad.
