Advent at the DSKL-Kindergarten:

-          ‘Waiting time’

-          Time of silence and contemplation

-          Joyfully awaiting Santa Claus and Christmas

-          Time for making handicrafts and giving presents to one another .....For children, this is the best time of the year!

In Malaysia, at 37° and artificial Christmas trees it’s kind of difficult for us adults to get into the right Christmas mood. The children however had no problems at all!

With great joy we unpacked the Christmas boxes, together we decorated the class rooms, and then, candles and fairy lights lit all children’s eyes with joy.

‘Less is more!’ – This year, we wanted to give the children an enriching, spiritual and relaxing Christmas season, without much hustle and bustle!

Of course, a gift for the parents, a few select handmade decorations such as cutting and folding stars, Santa Klaus made of apple etc. were an absolute must!

But most importantly, we had our daily Advents-celebration where we lighted up candles, told each other stories and legends and sang familiar tunes; everyday, one of the children was allowed to open a little gift package from the ‘Adventskalender’ containing a small gift for all children: a Christmas finger play, little bells for the musical accompaniment of our songs, a beautiful mandala,… we were all delighted!

On the 6thof December, Santa Claus came to us from the jungle, far away. We welcomed him with songs and small gifts, and the children, even the very little ones were overjoyed when each of them received their Christmas stocking filled with little surprises.

The most exciting part was, of course the grand DSKL Christmas celebration at the Luther Center. The Kindergarten children stole all the thunder, dancing on stage, wearing their hand- painted T-shirts and golden taenia, singing ‘Kling Glöckchen Klingelingeling’. On the last day, we ended the pre-Christmas season with a nice healthy ‘Advents-breakfast’.

Summer festival at the Kindergarten on 26.06.2010

How could we possibly draw the fathers to the Kindergarten? The Football World Cup in South Africawas the magic spell! Besides, this gave us a good reason to wear our chic football jerseys to Kindergarten, play lots of football during sports activities and in the garden. Thus, every Saturday morning our Kindergarten was brightly decorated with handmade German flags and footballs, warmly welcoming Dr. Munzinger and Dr. Dr. König of the ‘Big School’ and many sporty children, parents and guests cheering up the German team participating in the World Cup. Everyone could have a go in goal shooting, target practice, face-painting at various stations in the garden, even football caps were made, and of course, refreshments were offered at the buffet. We have had a great time! The ‚sporty’ stage presentation ‚Vor, vor, noch ein Tor...!’ by the Kindergarten children rounded up our cheerful activities. Perhaps many a tear of joy and pride were rolling, but also farewell tears were shed for those who would leave our Kindergarten for good.

It was beautiful!

Special thanks to the organizing committee for their enthusiasm and commitment in preparing this festival!
