The German KonLab helps children who are linguistically rather weak at German to discover their natural linguistic intuition. With this method terms are not memorized, but in a playful way, linguistic rules are being conveyed in order to stimulate the natural joy to speak the language. KonLab is offered to children aged 3-6 years, with delays in language acquisition and children with German as a second and or foreign language. After observation and assessment of teachers, we invite a child to KonLab. Participation is voluntary but continuity should be warranted.
The German speaking Kindergarten is part of the We attach great importance to the development of early childhood language skills and the acquisition of the German language in preparation for school. At the Kindergarten we believe in a loving education based on respect, readiness to help others, responsibility and open mindedness. Through individual support we foster and enhance an optimum development of the children’s self esteem, willingness to learn and social skills. Our work is, among others, guided by the principles of Maria Montessori ‘Help me to do it alone!’ and we are also using Montessori learning materials. Young children have very different needs. Therefore, it is important that we see early childhood not only as a preparatory phase for school (or adulthood) but allowing the child to make his/her own unique experiences during this independent phase in life. Free play is thus a crucial integrated part of the Kindergarten activities. Pedagogical emphasis is placed on the development of basic skills Personal competence– The children are motivated to develop a positive sense of self and perceive themselves as being adorable and beloved, adaptive and able to achieve. Through acknowledgement of the child as an individual, the Kindergarten teachers foster self-esteem and self confidence of each child. The children are given free space and the opportunity to participate in decision making, to voice their opinion and to solve problems independently. Physical competence – The children are given ample opportunities to experience and develop their motor skills. They are playing outdoors, climbing, bathing, driving vehicles, using swings, they are running, playing football thus, living out their urge to move and develop their gross motor skills. Furthermore, sports activities and exercises are being offered every Wednesday. Cognitive competence– The children perceive their environment to the fullest through the use of all their senses. Montessori educational programs and materials foster the development of cognitive skills. Emphasis is also placed on the development of language skills through enhancing the children’s vocabulary and their ability to express themselves. Motivational competence – The children discover that they are able to influence and shape their social and physical environment. The Kindergarten teachers pick up the children’s questions and together with them they develop their projects. Project work provides ample space for the children to develop their own solutions and set their own targets. Social competence – The children learn to be tolerant and considerate towards others and build relationships. The different age groups offer a wide range of learning experiences for each child. The older children who are exemplary role models for the younger ones (model learning) will be reinforcing their role model. Thus, their self confidence will be enhanced through this conscious experience of their own abilities. Taking on responsibility – The children learn to be responsible for their own experiences and behaviours. Already the very young ones will be allowed to decide and do as much as possible on their own. The children are completing various tasks for which only they will be responsible, such as laying the table, tidying up, helping with meal preparation, etc. The children will learn how to help the younger ones, support the weaker children and express their opinion. They will learn table manners, road safety and adherence to Kindergarten rules and regulations. Value and orientation competence – Norms and values that mould the children’s entire life are acquired during early childhood. We particularly emphasize on intercultural tolerance and open mindedness Learning Strategies – Learning how to learn through everyday life experiences such as (tying shoe laces, poring water, etc.) painting, counting, telling stories, reading aloud and doing science experiments are to be integrated into the daily Kindergarten activities. KON-LAB (Constanzer-Labor) in Kindergarten The German KonLab helps children who are linguistically rather weak at German to discover their natural linguistic intuition. Language immersion in Kindergarten Our Kindergarten not only promotes holistic education for your child but particularly emphasizes on German language acquisition. Thus, in addition to the everyday Kindergarten activities, we offer a German Language Immersion Program for a small group of children providing a language learning environment with authentic learning experiences, games and activities. The objective of the Language Immersion Program is speech in combination with positive experiences in order to provide a platform of motivation to speak the German language. We particularly offer this Immersion Program to preschool children who, after careful observation and assessment by their Kindergarten teachers are found to be in need of further language guidance. Participation is on a voluntary basis, the right to a place in the program shall not be claimed, however we recommend that your child attends classes regularly to ensure continuity in German language learning. The Language Immersion Program takes place once a week from 1 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. at the Kindergarten. Before the special activities start, the children will have lunch together. As no school bus will be available at 2.30 p.m. kindly arrange for private transport for your child.
