The DSKL-Kindergarten ABC A - wie Anmeldung und Kindergartenstart (Registration and start of activities) What your child needs to bring to the DSKL Kindergarten: Children’s rucksack with healthy breakfast in a box, perhaps mineral water/Schorle (always for sports!), 1 fruit/vegetable for the fruit break, at least 1 complete set of clothes for changing, DSKL-cap, DSKL-sports shirt, sports pants without zipper and buttons, sneakers for sports, swimsuit/-trunk and bath towel with child’s name in a plastic bag for water activities, 6 small passport photographs, emergency pass issued by DSKL with photograph, 1 tissue box Abholen (Pick up time) The Kindergarten ends at 1.00 p.m. Children are to be picked up on time. Subsequently to the Kindergarten activities, the teachers will be involved in other tasks and responsibilities (Language immersion, team meetings …). Abholerlaubnis (Permission for pick up) Please inform us in writing, should any changes occur regarding the pick up pattern of your child (No SMS please!) Kindly refer to the daily updated pick up info on the notice board at the entrance of the Kindergarten. Abmeldung (Withdrawal, notice of absence) Please notify us if your child is unable to attend the Kindergarten for one or several days, as this would facilitate our planning. If your child is absent for medical reasons, please state the type of illness in order for us to notify other parents of communicable diseases. The term of notice shall be two months. Aufnahme (Admission) Children of a minimum age of three years can be admitted to the Kindergarten. Two places per group may be allocated to children below tree years of age. Kindergarten places will be allocated upon consultation with the staff members and according to a waiting list. Aufsichtspflicht (Supervision) Our supervisory responsibility for the Kindergarten children begins upon handing over the children to the Kindergarten teachers and ends upon picking them up. The school shall assume no liability in cases where children remain at the Kindergarten venue beyond the stipulated time, thus the children are to be supervised by their respective parents. Ausflüge (School outings) The groups organize occasionally small and larger excursions. If needed, we ask parents to support / assist such enterprises. During these activities, parents are exempted from liability by the DSM. During the kindergarten year excursions are held as needed. Trips and bus transportation, for example, to a theater or a bird park in Kuala Lumpur must be paid by the parents. For a better overview on trips, all children are required to wear the red-DSKL sports t-shirt and DSKL-cap! A child without DSKL sports T-shirt gets a DSKL sports T-shirt from the kindergarten, which must be paid by the parents. Basteln (Handicraft work) Your Child will once in a while take home some handmade craft items. However, it may not always be clear what these handicrafts were supposed to represent, what the original idea was, and how much work and thinking went into the creation of the art piece. The craft item represents however an invaluable creative expression of joy and imagination, in wish the parents should take a keen interest in order to enhance the child’s development to become a self confident person. Bewegung (Exercise) As our outdoor facilities (sandpit, monkey bars with slides, swings, vehicles…) are providing ample opportunities for invaluable experiences in physical exercises, the children spend daily a fair amount of time outdoors despite heat and rain. Bringen (Arriving at the Kindergarten) Children are to be brought to the Kindergarten between 8.00 a.m. – 8.30 a.m. Please ensure that a Kindergarten teacher receives your child; responsibility for supervision starts at 8.00 a.m. upon handing your child over to the Kindergarten teachers. Bus (Bus) The bus transport of DSKL is also made available to the Kindergarten children. Please contact the Kindergarten or the DSKL secretariat for further information. Datenschutz (Data protection) Any kind of personal information shall be dealt with in accordance with the respective statutory data protection provisions. DSKL-Kleidung (DSKL-dress code) All Kindergarten children are required to wear the red DSKL-sport shirt and the blue DSKL-cap! Eingewöhnung (Integration) In order for your child to integrate easily into the Kindergarten routine, the familiarization period will be discussed with the respective parents. Please ensure you are able to accompany your child during the first few days and weeks and you are free to pick her/him up if the need arises. Elternabende (Parent teacher sessions) will be scheduled according to various topics, as for instance as info sessions regarding our work, project oriented or as handy craft sessions during Advent and Easter. Elternsprechzeit (Consultation hours for parents) We aim at maintaining close contact with the parents. Each Kindergarten teacher will set aside weekly consultation hours for the parents of children under her guidance; kindly register for this sessions. Parent representatives will be allocated weekly consultation hours with the principal. Please refer to the notice board at the entrance of the Kindergarten for consultation hours. Entwicklungsgespräche (Development talks) Parent teacher meetings are scheduled twice during the Kindergarten year (30 minutes each). Thus, parents and teachers will have the opportunity to discuss observations and evaluations of the child’s development and behavior. Furthermore, parents may arrange individual consultation hours with the respective Kindergarten teachers. Elterninformationen (Information for parents) Each child will be given a folder at the beginning of the Kindergarten year which is to remain in the school bag and should be checked for updated information. If the folder is lost, we reserve the right to collect RM 2.00 for a new folder. Elternvertreter (Parents’ representative) 2 parents’ representatives from each group will be elected at the beginning of each Kindergarten year. The parents’ representatives are trusted liaison persons regarding all matters arising in the Kindergarten. From their ranks, 2 parents’ representative council members will be elected for the DSKL. Feste (Festivals) Festivals and celebrations form an integrated part ouf the Kindergarten activities. Besides the traditional German festivals, we will discuss with the children one Malaysian festival as a central theme each year. Fotos (Photographs) During the daily Kindergarten routine, festivals and outings, etc. we usually take photographs of the children to capture the special moments and also provide an inside into our Kindergarten. These pictures will then appear on the homepage, in the yearbook, the Kindergarten folders, e-mails and password protected photo websites on the Internet. Please notify us if you do not wish the photos of your child to be displayed, or otherwise sign the permission to do so at the Kindergarten. Frühstück (Breakfast) We believe in the importance of your child learning about nutritious food. Therefore, breakfast / snacks in the child’s bag should not consist of sweets but fruits, carrots, nutritious bread, yoghurt, or other healthy snacks. Milk and filtered water will be provided by the Kindergarten. On the first Wednesday of each month, the respective groups will have a common breakfast under the topic ‘Nutritious Breakfast‘. Upon receiving information via consultation/a list or news letter, the parents shall send the ingredients to the Kindergarten. Fundsachen (Lost and found) Lost and found items will be collected in a ‘lost and found-box‘, which is to be placed on the shoe shelf. If you detect items in your child’s Kindergarten bag or pocket that do not belong to your child, please return them to the group the following day (i.e. small Montessori-pearls etc.) Geburtstage (Birth days) Your child’s birthday is a very important event in the life of your child and also in our Kindergarten. The birthday child will be given a crown and she/he will be the most important person on that day. Through the birthday book prepared by the parents, all children will hear stories of the birthday child’s childhood experiences. We will be lighting candles, congratulating the child, singing songs, playing favorite games, and the birthday child will receive a present from the Kindergarten. The birthday child may bring along a cake or other snacks for all children. Getränke (Drinks) Milk and filtered water will be provided by the Kindergarten. Please ensure your child takes lockable tumblers to the Kindergarten (no Tetra packs) Hausschuhe (House shoes) The children may run barefoot in the Kindergarten, wear socks with rubber knobs (anti slip), or house shoes. Kindergartentasche (Kindergarten bag) The Kindergarten bag is to be large enough to include a breakfast box, a tumbler, one set of extra clothes, the folder and handicraft items. Two small bags may not be practical, particularly during bus rides. The bag should be a type of rucksack which the child should be able to open and close independently. Kleidung (Clothing) Kindergarten clothing is to be comfortable and have child friendly fasteners, modern and chic clothing should not be the priority as it may get dirty during handicraft work etc. A set of extra clothes may be deposited at the Kindergarten. After outdoor games, the children will always wear dry and clean clothes. Please return borrowed clothes promptly and clean! Krankheit (Illness) An ill child should not attend the Kindergarten. Please notify the Kindergarten if your child has been advised to stay at home. Before returning to the Kindergarten, the child should have been without any fever for at least one day. In cases of communicable diseases, a medical certificate shall be presented to the Kindergarten. If your child is not feeling well during the Kindergarten activities, we will immediately notify the parents to pick up their child. Krisenplan (Crisis management) The DSKL-crisis plan shall be applicable. Monatsplan (Monthly plan) Please click the link ‘Kindergarten‘ on the DSKL homepage (www.dskl.edu.my) for the monthly plans of the individual groups. However, the monthly plan may change subject to unforeseeable situations impacting on the groups. We operate according to a situation oriented open Kindergarten concept in order to meet the needs of the children. Moskitomittel (Mosquito repellant) Several mosquito repellant devises have been installed outdoors. Please apply mosquito repellant spray or crème before your child arrives at the Kindergarten; mosquito pads attached to the child’s clothing appear to be useful. Obstpause (Break for fruits) After outdoor games children will have a break for fruits. Children are requested to bring along one fruit to be placed into the basket at the entrance of the Kindergarten. Parken (Parking) Parking in front of the gate is strictly prohibited as the space is reserved for school busses and emergency situations. Pinnwand (Notice board) Parents can obtain updated information regarding the groups, important dates and extraordinary events of the daily group activities from the notice board at the entrance of the Kindergarten. Praktikum (Internships) Internship vacancies are usually made available in all groups subject to the respective group situation. Rhythmik und Sport (Rhythm and sports) Once a week, the school bus will take the older children to the gym of the Cobra Club near DSKL. Sports activities take place according to age groups. Departure times will be announced. The three year olds and younger children (U3) will be participating in rhythmic and sports activities at the Kindergarten. Schmuck (Jewelry) should be best kept at home, as injuries may occur during sports and games (particularly necklaces). Schuhe (Shoes) The children are to place their shoes in the shoe shelf located at the entrance of the Kindergarten. Please ensure the shoes bear the child’s name. Shoes should be suitable for running, playing moving on vehicles (No slippers or heels to avoid accidents) Schweigepflicht (Confidentiality) All staff members are bound to confidentiality. No information regarding your child or your family shall be passed on to third parties without your consent. Sonnenschutz (UV-protection) Please apply suitable UV-protection before your child attends the Kindergarten, particularly when water activities are planned. Your child may also wear a cap. Spielzeugtag (Toy-day)
Toys should be best kept at home in order to avoid envy, anger and conflicts, particularly in cases when toys are broken or lost. However, every Monday of the month the children will be allowed to bring along their own toys (no weapons or combat toys).
Sports shirt All children are required to buy a red DSKL-sports shirt, available at the school shop or Kindergarten. Sprachförderung (Language development) In addition to the everyday Kindergarten activities, we offer the ‘konlab’ language program and the ‘Sprachbad’, a language immersion program. Children can enrol in this programs upon recommendation by their respective Kindergarten teachers. Telefonnummern (Telephone numbers) For cases of emergency, please let us have your telephone number and an emergency number in case we are unable to contact you personally. The parents’ representatives, with the consent of the parents will issue a list of addresses and telephone numbers of all children at the beginning of the Kindergarten year to facilitate communication between the parents. The Kindergarten‘s phone number is (03) 79558524. Telefonzeiten (Phone-in hours) Our phone-in hours at the Kindergarten are from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. and from 11.00 a.m. to 1.15 p.m. U3 (Under 3) Currently we are providing four places for children of two years of age at our Kindergarten (2 per group). Children below three years of age are to follow a 3 months trial period! For this age group we offer a Kindergarten period from 8.00 a.m. to 12 p.m. as the usual period might be to challenging for them. Kindly adhere to this schedule and pick your child up in due time! Unfallversicherung (Accident insurance) Please refer to the DSKL homepage (www.dskl.edu.my) under ‘DSKL A-Z’. Vorschularbeit (Preschool work) Separate times are being allocated for preschool work. The preschool children will meet in the Green Group from 9.00 a.m. - 11.00 a.m. using specific preschool materials. During the second half of the year, the preschool children will alternately go to the library or attend sports activities. Wasseraktivitäten (Water activities) We offer outdoor water activities. Please provide your child with a swim suit/trunk and a towel in a plastic bag. Both these items should bear the child’s name and taken home on the same day. The children are invited to bring along bath products, body paints and water toys. Wickelkinder (Children in diapers) Please pack sufficient diapers and wet towels for your child. Each child would need her/his own, preferably square sized, bath towel as a changing pad which is to be taken home on weekends by the parents themselves and brought back to the Kindergarten the following day. Changing utensils (diaper changing unit) are to be deposited at the Kindergarten. We are changing diapers according to the children’s needs and after outdoor games in the garden.
