Second Parent Letter in the School Year 2007/08 (translated by Grade 11)

Dear Ladies and Gentleman,                                                                                                                                                         Dear Parents,

Our all-day school program is now finally in progress and the majority of the students had their wishes for the WASs and Ags granted. The school is filled with activities; it's amazing that despite grade 12, our graduation class, and also the new Realschulklasse 10 still each group has their study area to work, learn and study.

I am very happy that we now have a true Realschul group with 9 students. As far as I’m informed, this has never happened before at the DSKL.

We’ll have final exams for the students of the Realschule and our Gymnasium graduates. They will be honored by our 30 years DSKL anniversary party.

On 6th June 2009 we will have a ball, celebrating several events:

  • The graduates of the “Realschule” and the “Abitur”
  • The first “Abitur” examine at the DSKL
  • The first German-International Abitur examination, which will eventually be introduced worldwide
  • The 30 years of DSKL in Malaysia graduation

The chairman of the Bund – Länder Ausschuss for Schulische Arbeit im Ausland, Dr. Köhler has already confirmed that he will be personally handing out the first International Abitur report cards and Mittlere Reife report cards in a ceremony.

A party committee is already working on the preparations for this ceremony.

And now the more official affairs …

Students of the DSKL will need a “Student Pass” or a certificate by the Malaysian authorities that they are allowed to attend an International School, like the DSKL.

If you haven’t handed these in yet, please do so until the 16th of October.

Members of the embassy or Malaysian citizens do not need to hand in such a student pass.

The international students’ pass can soon be applied for. It is a testimony for benefits like reduced entrance fees to museums etc.

All students from grade 5 onwards are informed via e-mail by us and attached there will be a form which needs to be filled out.

During the last school year lockers were put up in class rooms and in the front entry of the school the purpose of which are the safe keeping of laptops and other valuables. Students of the 8th grade who use laptops really should use such a locker daily. If valuables are lost or freely standing laptops are destroyed, the school will not take any responsibility.

Therefore I ask the students and parents of the 8th grade and higher: Please take this offer for a lock seriously and acquire a combination lock for 50RM at the reception. From the beginning of next week the left over lockers will be given to younger students or their parent. The demand of the younger students is big as well.

Due to a certain cause the school will, for the time being, be concentrating harder on appropriate school wear. We are in a country that doesn’t tolerate “hot pants” and miniskirts. For girls, pants and skirts have to have an appropriate length which would have to be knee length. It is also not acceptable if shorts or skirts are “pulled” into knee length so that the bellybutton will be showing.

The dates of the parent-teacher conferences were already send to you on August 22. To make sure I’ll paste them below:

We look forward to your participants and willingness to accept the responsibility of being a Klassenelternvertreterin/vertreter. The first meeting of the new parent representives will be on September 11.

During the parent-teacher conferences tables will be in the entrance of the school, with old schoolbooks. Even though these most of this books are still up-to date they won’t be used anymore for lessons and you can take any books your children might be able to use.

The demands for the instrumental lessons this year have been so high, that our current range of dates isn’t enough. Of course we’ll consider first the students who already started taking the instrumental lessons last year. The remaining places have been passed out by the allowance of the timetable and then with at random.

Three days ago Mr. Matter, who is the owner of a garage located at the Sepang Racetrack, visited me. He informed me, that two young future race drivers, at the age of 15 and 17 were currently training there. To give these two boys a chance to finish their education and practice for racing they are now looking for families to take them in for one year. They would then become regular students of the DSKL.

If interested kindly contact the DSKL secretary.

Please be informed, that the dates for important public hollidays have now been decided upon and placed into the Holiday calendar, which can be found on the DSKL homepage. Some of these days are: 9. Febuary 2009 Thaipusam and 9. March 2009 Mohamed Birthday. On this day the 10th grade will be absolving their exams.

Since both public holidays stated above are on a Monday, we will place the remaining days to the 17th October 2008 (The Indian temple next door celebrate their 300th year), aswell as the 2nd and 3rd April 2009, meaning that the beginn of the Easter Holidays has been placed ahead by two days. We would also like to remind you, that on 17. September 2008, as already stated in the holiday calendar, no lessons are held.
